Some good advice for High School

Here is some good advice for your child:

  • When you need something ask the teachers, don't be afraid to ask.
  • Hand in homework, assignments and projects on the due date, so you won't get detention.
  • Wear your uniform properly every single day.
  • If you have any homework, assignments or projects, write a plan so you don't make mistakes.
  • Get to school on time so you don't miss out on anything.
  • Bring all the books and equipment that you need.
  • Don't be afraid to make new friends.

Differences between High School and Primary School!

These are the differences between High School and Primary School:

  • In primary school, you're the oldest, but in high school, you're the youngest.
  • In primary school, there are less subjects like maths, english, art. music and LOTE. But in high school, you have more, there's even geography, history, science, woodwork and metalwork.
  • There's always a playground in primary school, but in high school, there isn't.
  • High schools can be alot more bigger then primary schools.
  • They give you more homework, assignments and projects, but in primary school, they give you homework you only once a week.
  • High schools are more serious then primary schools.
  • You'll have more teachers in high school.

Parent-Child Support

What your child has to do to get ready for high school:

  • Choose a high school that you think is suitable for your child.
  • Make sure you're in the zone.
  • Complete notices that your child's primary school will hand out.
  • Decide the 2nd language for your child in high school.
  • Complete booklist.
  • Buy uniform.
  • Read over requirements and rules with your child.
  • Buy a lock for your child's locker.
  • Attend orientation and information nights.

Information about Balwyn High

Balwyn High is a fantastic school for students at a year level 7 to 12.

This school was built in 1954, and over 1, 880 people decided to attend Balwyn High.



Balwyn High is an educational school with LOTE, art, music, geography, history, english, maths, and also other challanging subjects and opportunities such as appointing a school captain. There are also music lessons that are available for students that are interested, as well as band practice that are for students that participate in a band.

Balwyn high also has an accelarated learning program(ALP) that holds a test mid-year for children that have a higher standard of learning.

The school also offers a laptop program , students use apple mac books during class and use CD-roms instead of normal books. They also get taught how to use mac books, this can often come to use in the future.

How are you feeling about high school?

Bethann: I don't mind, it doesn't make a difference to me.
Grace: I'm a bit nervous, but i know i'll have my friends there with me.
Nathan: I'm excited.

What are you most looking forward to in high school?

Bethann: Assignments and lockers.
Grace: I don't know.
Nathan: Sport.

Is there anything you're concerned about?

Bethann: Getting detention and not being able to handle so much homework.
Grace: Not really.
Nathan: Nope.

What do you wish to be when you grow up?

Bethann: Journalist or a Barraster.
Grace: A vet.
Nathan: An Australian Cricket Player.

Interview with Sue Yang

Sue Yang is a student in Balwyn High who is currently in year 7. She is one of Jane K's family friends. Jane K interviewed her on the 3rd of December.


Jane : How did you feel on the first day of school?

Sue: Nervous, because there wasn't anyone I knew in my class and I was worried that I'll get lost in the school.

Jane: Did you learn anything new at school?

Sue: Stuff about school and history of the school.

Jane: What was the difference between primary and high school?

Sue: Well, when I was in primary school I was the oldest, but in high school, I'm the youngest. There is also more homework.

Jane: What was your biggest fear of starting high school?

Sue: If I didn't have any friends and if people didn't like me.

Jane: What are your dreams?

Sue: I want be a designer, but I don't know what kind.
